Two dead in attempted abduction of schoolgirl

Two people have died at Amirpur village in Chuadanga Sadar upazila in an attempted abduction of a schoolgirl.

The victim’s uncle died after being stabbed by the kidnapper while the kidnapper was killed in a mob beating on early Saturday (Aug 24). The victim has also been injured during the incident.

The deceased are victim’s uncle Hasanuzzaman Hasan, 24, son of Hamidul Islam of Amirpur village in Sadar upazila, and the suspected kidnapper, Akbor Ali, 32, son of Abul Kashem in Modna village of Damurhuda upazila.

According to local people and police, Akbor broke into Hamidul Islam’s house in Amirpur village around 2:30am on Saturday and tried to abduct Hamidul’s thirteen-year old granddaughter Sumaiya by holding her knifepoint.  

On hearing the girl scream, Hasan came to her rescue and Akbor stabbed both the girl and her uncle.

When local people heard them scream, they caught Akbor and beat him to death.

Hasan died on the way to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital when Sumaiya and he were being taken there for treatment.

On information, police have recovered the bodies of Akbor and Hasan and sent them to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations, said Chuadanga Sadar police Officer in Charge (OC) Lutful Kabir.

The police were investigating matter, he said.
