Jubo League leader ‘killed by Rohingyas’ in Teknaf

Mohammad Omar Faruk A Jubo League leader has allegedly been shot to death by Rohingya people in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased is Mohammad Omar Faruk, 30, son of Mohammad Monaf Company who is a resident of Jadimara area.

Mohammad Omar Faruk was Nhilla union’s ward no 9 president of Jubo League, an affiliated organisation of ruling Awami League, and executive committee president of Jadimara Government Primary School.

The incident occurred in Jadimara area of Teknaf’ Nhilla union on Thursday (Aug 23) night.

Witnesses said that a group of armed Rohingyas led by Selim abducted Faruk in front of his house around 10 pm.

They later took him to a nearby hill and shot him dead, the accounts said.

The Rohingyas also did not allow Faruk’s family members to bring his body back, said Faruk’s brother Amir Hamza.

Amir said that Faruk had always stood by the Rohingyas who had fled violence and persecution in their motherland in Myanmar and helped them in every possible way.

On being informed, police later recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination, said Teknaf police station Officer in Charge ABM S Doha.

The police are yet to find the motive behind the killing and said that they were trying to arrest the killers.
