He made the remarks while responding to media queries at J M Sen Hall in the capital on Friday (Aug 23) night.

Earlier, he spoke at a programme organised there on the occasion of Janmashthami.

He said that these NGOs did not want repatriation of the Rohingyas because if the Rohingyas stayed in Bangladesh, they would be able to avail more funds.

The government was working on identifying these NGOs and action will be taken against them, he added.

The minister said that the Bangladesh government was making efforts at all levels to ensure that Rohingyas could go back to their homeland but Myanmar itself must take the steps needed to ensure that the repatriation happened.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina had given shelter to 1.1 million Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar on humanitarian grounds but that number had now risen to 1.2 million since hundreds of children had been born during the last two years, he said.
