Two people have died after being diagnosed with dengue at different hospitals in Thakurgaon and Barisal.
In Thakurgaon, A teenage college girl died on her way to the Rangpur medical college hospital from Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital on Friday night, reports our correspondent.
The deceased- Opi Rani Rai, 16, was declared dead by Dr Farhana Akhter, the duty doctor of Dinajpur Sadar Hospital.
“Opi was admitted in the sadar hospital for being ill, and then diagnosed with dengue,” said Dr HM Anwarul Hossain, Civil Surgeon of Thakurgaon.
“When her condition deteriorated, doctors referred her to the Rangpur hospital for better treatment,” he added.
However, she became unresponsive on her way to RMCH and was rushed to the nearby Dinajpur Sadar Hospital, where she was declared dead, he added.
The civil surgeon further said Opi was the first one to die of dengue in Thakurgaon. Since Jul 23, a total of 62 dengue patients have been admitted to the state-run hospital in the district town.
Currently, the number of patients receiving treatment is 28, and 5 have been referred to the Rangpur hospital. The remaining 29 have recovered and gone home.
In Barishal, a class four student Rushra, 10, suffering from Dengue infection, died at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) on Saturday (Aug 10), reports our correspondent.
Dr Bakir Hossain, director of SBMCH, said Rushra came from Dhaka with her family members to observe upcoming Eid Ul Azha at maternal grandmother’s home in Razapur of Jhalakathi on Aug 8.
"Suspecting that she was infected with dengue virus, her parents admitted her to SBMCH on Friday evening in critical condition."

DENGUE SITUATION UNABATED IN BANGLADESH
According to the latest data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 29 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till August 8.
However, the unofficial death toll is 77, with the inclusion of this latest death.
A total of 2,326 people infected with dengue were hospitalized across the country in 24 hours till Friday, showing a slight fall in the number of such patients from the previous day.
The number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined is 8,765, and of them, 5,140 are in Dhaka, mentioned the speakers at a regular discussion held at the Health ministry.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, 34,666 patients have been hospitalized and 25,872 discharged after recovery, according to the DGHS data.
