Traffic has almost come to a standstill at Bangabandhu Bridge due to a nearly 60 kilometre tailback in the Tangail portion causing the north-bound holidaymakers to suffer.
Vehicles movement has been sluggish on the highway since Friday (Aug 9) morning. The eastern part of the bridge from Mirzapur and western part from Mulibari Railcrossing to Hatikumrul intersection has become totally congested.
Bangla Tribune’s Tangail correspondent reported a major 40 km tailback on the from Mirzapur to Bangabandhu Bridge on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.
“The bus left from Gabtoli with the passengers at 7 am,” said BTRC bus driver Khairul Islam and added that it took them nearly five hours to get to Tangail’s Koratipara.Bangabandhu Bridge police (east) OC Mosharraf Hossain attributed the traffic to difficulties in receiving the cars at Sirajganj.
Meanwhile, Bangla Tribune’s Sirajganj Correspondent reported an 18 kilometre tailback at the western end of the bridge.
Bangabandhu Police OC (west) Syed Alam said that the sudden pressure of vehicles in addition to not maintaining the rules have led to the tailback.
