As many as 70 shanties have been gutted in a fire that broke out at a slum in Narayanganj on Friday (Aug 2).
The incident was reported from the Zilla Parishad Office area in the district’s Sadar Upazila, said fire service official.
“It took seven firefighting units nearly one hour to bring the flames under control,” said Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Arefin.
“No casualties were reported in the incident,” he said before adding, “The cause behind the fire is yet to be determined and the damage will be estimated after investigation.”
Citing witnesses, fire service members said that the fire broke out at a shanty around 3am and soon it engulfed nearby shanties at the slum. At least 70 shanties were gutted in the fire.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and took control of the incident after being informed.
