A businessman has allegedly been hijacked after unidentified miscreants stopped his private car on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway and took away over Tk 3.2 million in cash.A businessman has allegedly been hijacked after unidentified miscreants stopped his private car on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway and took away over Tk 3.2 million in cash.
The incident was reported from west of Kanchpur Bridge at Shiddhirganj on Thursday (Aug 1) night.
The hijacking victim, Monir Hossain, is a tradesman from Cumilla cantonment area.
Shiddhirganj police Sub-Inspector Kamrul Islam said that Monir had gone to Dhaka with the money to buy a shop there.
“He was returning to Cumilla with the money since he couldn’t seal the deal on the shop on Thursday,” he said.
He added that eight men on motorcycles stopped the car when it reached Sajeda Hospital in Shiddhirganj.
“They broke the glasses with hammer and took the money after threatening them with weapons.”
He said that according to locals, the miscreants fired a few rounds while running away.
