A rape accused has been killed in Chattogram’s Patiya Upazila in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as a shootout.
The incident was reported around 1.45am on Tuesday (Jul 30) from Maliara village in the upazila’s Kusumpura Union, said RAB.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Arman.
“Being tipped-off, RAB conducted a drive in the area to arrest Arman when a shootout took place. Arman was caught in line of cross firing and his bullet hit body was recovered from the spot after the incident,” said RAB-7 Assistant Superintendent of police Kazi Tarek Aziz.
“A firearm, seven rounds of ammunition and 9 empty bullet shells were seized from the scene,” said Aziz.
“The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy,” he said.
“Arman was absconding after raping a girl of eighth grade in the same area on Jul 19,” the elite force official told Bangla Tribune.
