Police arrested principal of a madrasah in Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail for seeking the salvation of the departed souls of the killer’s of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Abdul Kader Talukdar, a former commander of the Muktijoddha Command Council, filed the case under section 16 of the Special Power Act against the Principal of Gopalpur Darul Ulum Kamil Madrasah Dr Faizul Amir Sarker on Saturday (Dec 16) night. Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Al Mamun has confirmed the matter.
Fayzul Amir Sarker is the son of Abdul Mannan Sarker of Kashimpur village of Muradnagar Upazila of Comilla district. He joined the Gopalpur Darul Ulum Kamil Madrasah in 2009.
Witnesses said the Gopalpur Upazila administration had arranged a special prayer programme for freedom fighters that died during the Liberation War of 1971 at the Upazila Freedom Fighters’ office Saturday morning. Faizul conducted a munajat (prayer) at the program where he sought salvation for those who were hanged in connection with the killing of Bangabandhu.
Upazila Chairman Yunus Islam Talukder and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dilruba Sharmin, among others, were also present in the program.
Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Al Mamun said, “Faizul is being questioned. We are investigating the matter. He (Faizul) will be sent to court on Sunday (17th December) morning.”
Police detained Faizul immediately after that incident.
