After visiting the spot where Rifat was hacked, DIG of Barishal range, Shafiqul Islam, has said: “We have identified the people who perpetrated this heinous crime; one has been arrested while efforts are underway to arrest the rest.”

The criminals have to be arrested because we want to show how severe the consequences can be if one commits such a brutal act, the DIG said.

On the morning of 26 June, around 10 am, Rifat was severely injured when he was hacked by miscreants in front of Borguna College. His wife tried to stop the attackers but failed.

After the incident, the killers went away in a victorious mood without trying to hide their faces.

Rifat got married only two months ago. In the killing, Rifat’s father has lodged a case accusing 12 persons with a person called Nayan Bond as the main accused.

The police have arrested number four in the 12 person list, Chandan.
