Lightning kills five in Pabna

PabnaFive people have died including a minor schoolgirl in separate lightning strikes in Pabna, on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Mannan, 50, Abdus Salam, 49, and Ansar Mallik, 47, all from the Agbagshoa village in the Bera upazila; Nasima Khatun, 12, in Char-buramara village of the same upazila and Shamim Ahmed, 32, of Noubaria Maddhya-para village in Bhangura upazila.
In Bera upazila, "Four farmers were harvesting peanuts in the char area of Agbagshoa village when a lightning bolt hit them. The doctor-on-duty declared Abdul, Salam and Ansar dead after all of them were taken to the Upazila Health Complex," said Bera police OC Shaahid Mahmud.
Ershad Molla, 26, is still receiving treatment in the hospital, the OC added.
Police sources confirmed another death of the seventh grader Nasima in the Char-buramara village when she was also harvesting peanuts.
In the Bhangura upazila, Shamim went to fishing with a current net in the Atharobaria bil (marsh) and was hit by lightning strike in the thunderstorm.
Severely injured, Shamim was rushed to a local hospital where doctor declared him dead, said Bhangura police OC Masud Rana.
