A team of the Bangladesh Geological Survey Buruau, GSB, is carrying out digging in Hili, Dinajpur, to look into the feasibility of discovering an iron mine.
Iron and magnetic items found in the area have already been sent for investigation. Now the wait is for the final report.
A 22 member GSB team is carrying out a drilling survey. Earlier, iron ore was found in Murshidpur village of Hakimpur.
Locals are also helping in the survey because if iron is located here then there will be a transformation of the area with employment, markets, bazaars and development.
MP of Dinajpur-6, Shibli Sadeq, says: “Our PM has authorised countless such surveys to find underground mineral resources.”
Already, coal reserves have been found in Nobabganj and Hakimpur and we expect to find coal and other minerals in Ishabpur, Hili.
Director of GSB, Saidul Hossain, observed: “We carried out survey in 2013 and currently, the second round of survey is underway; we are assessing the quality of metals and minerals here.”
We are considering the economic factor in drilling; if we do not get financial benefit then excavation will not come to any use. The drilling began on 19 April last and will go on for three-four months, said Saidul Hossain.
After visiting the drilling, DG of GSB, Zillu Rahman Chowdhury, said: “We have done drilling up to 150 feet; minerals found so far have been sent to the lab for tests. The results have not come as yet but apparently, what we found appeared to be satisfactory.”
