The Road and Public Transport Division started work for the renovation of the bridge from Friday (Jun 5).
The authorities have urged the heavy vehicles to make a detour through the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and smaller vehicles through Madanpur using the Nabiganj-Kaikartek road.
Since the construction work started on Eid day, one of the lanes was opened to the public. That same lane is being used for traffic both ways causing a hold up.
Renovation of the Langolband bridge at  Narayanganj has caused major tailback at the Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Thursday (Jun 6), the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr.There is a one-and-half kilometre tailback on the west of the bridge while the eastern side has a a nealy four-and-half kilometre hold up.
Ashrafuddin who has been travelling to Dhaka from Chattogram said that it took him more than one-and-half hour to cross the bridge.
The highway and district police have been working all morning to manage the traffic.
Kanchpur Highway police OC Qayum Ali Sarder said that the congestion was due to only one lane being used for movement of vehicles moving both ways but it was a moving traffic.
