Nusrat murder trial transferred to tribunal

One of the accused Siraj-ud-Daula at whose behest the fatal arson attack on madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi was carried out is being escorted through the corridors of a trial court in Feni. Siraj along with 15 others charged are in police custody.The trial in the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi has been shifted to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Feni.
Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Zakir Hossain gave the order on Thursday (May 30) after accepting the charge sheet lodged by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
The indictment hearing will start at the tribunal from Jun 10, said PBI Inspector Md Shah Alam.
The Police Bureau of Investigation has pressed charges against 16 people over the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.A total of 21 accused including the 16 who were charged over the murder were present in court during the hearing.
“Me and my lawyer will go through the charge sheet and see if all the accused have been duly charged,” said Nusrat’s brother Mahmudul Hassan Noman.
Out of the 16 people charged, 12 have already provided confessional statements under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Siraj along with 15 others charged are in police custody.According to PBI there are 92 witnesses in the case, seven of whose statements have been recorded under section 164.
Nusrat, who was an Alim examinee, suffered 80% burns when she was set on fire on Apr 6 on the roof of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, for refusing to withdraw sexual assault charges against now suspended madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula.
After she was set on fire, her family filed another case against eight people, including Siraj, on Apr 8.
The 18-year-old girl died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Apr 10, after battling with burn injuries for five days.
