Prisoner dies in 'clash with cellmate’ in Chattogram

The incident was reported late on Wednesday (May 29), said Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police camp Assistant Sub-Inspector Shilabrata Barua.
The deceased has been identified as Amit Muhuri.
“Amit was taken to the hospital in a critical condition and died around 1am on Thursday (May 30) while under treatment at the hospital,” Barua told Bangla Tribune.
Jailer Naser Ahmed of Chattogram Central Jail said, “Amit Muhuri was involved in a clash with an inmate named Ripon at Number 32 cell in the jail late on Wednesday.”
“Ripon hit Amit on the head with a brick. Amit was rescued from the scene and later, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” said Ahmed.
According to police, Amit Muhuri was a listed criminal who was accused in 15 cases, including several murders. He was arrested on Sept 2, 2017, over the murder of Imranul Karim Emon, and disposing of his body. He had been behind bars since then.
