Two students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have been accused of defaming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Bangladesh Chhatra League JU unit Vice President Hamja Rahaman Antor lodged a complaint to Ashulia police on Friday (May 10).
As per the complaint, JU’s marketing department student Fahim Hossain, and drama and dramatics department student Camellia Sharmin Charu defamed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Both students are from the 47th batch.
The BCL leader made allegations over a Facebook post published in Camelia’s timeline on Dec 13, 2017.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, Camellia Sharmin said: "There has been nothing written in the post to ridicule anyone and didn’t write anything to defame our Honorable Prime Minister.”
Bangla Tribune could not reach Hossain for a comment.
BCL leader Antor, however, said he “wants to justice as per laws that the two students have shown the spiteful behavior of the Father of the Nation on Facebook and Camelia Sharmin posted a disgraceful status on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
“I will also place a complaint to the university administration,” he added.
Ashulia police OC Rezaul Haque Dipu said they have received complain but are yet to accept it as a case.
“We are looking into the matter,” the OC added.
JU Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan told Bangla Tribune that such allegations are disgraceful for the university.
“It will be addressed to the university’s higher authorities,” he added.
