LakshmipurAn office assistant at Janakalyan Bohumukhi High School at Laxmipur’s Raipur Upzila has resigned after an eighth grader brought sexual harassment allegations against him.
Claiming that he was innocent, Tobarak Hossain Azad filed his resignation to the school’s managing committee on Friday (Apr 19).
Several students said that although he was an office assistant, he used to take classes every now and then and harassed the students in many ways.
They claimed that he threatened to fail them if they didn’t agree to his proposition.
According to them, he allegedly hugged an eighth grader without her permission after which 10 other students and their guardians wrote to the management committee demanding punishment and his withdrawal.
“I wrote to the principal on Apr 16 with a complaint against him,” said the victim.
She added that Azad’s father even went to her house and threatened her if she didn’t withdraw the complaint.
“I’m a bit scared because of that,” she said.
Meanwhile, the accused says that this was all a conspiracy against him.
“That student’s father died in a road crash. I hugged her out of affection,” he said and added that the school authorities asked him to resign.
The school’s principal Riaz Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury said that the entire incident was very embarrassing for them.
“An investigation revealed that there was some truth to the allegations,” he said.
He added that the UNO had been informed of the matter and will be taking legal action against the accused.
