Umme Sultana Poppy, a suspect in the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, has confessed to calling her to the roof the day she was set on fire.
Poppy, the niece of now withdrawn madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula, confessed her involvment in the killing in a statement recorded by Senior Judicial Magistrate Sharaf Uddin Ahmed on Friday (Apr 19).
She admitted to calling her to the rooftop of the exam centre and being part of the murder, said Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Special Superintendent of Police Mohammad Iqbal told Bangla Tribune.
“Umme Sultana Poppy has confessed in front of the court that she is directly involved in the murder,” he said.
Nusrat, was set on fire on Apr 6, the day of her Alim examination by burqa-clad assailants for refusing to withdraw sexual assault charges against Siraj-ud-Daula.
She died of extensive burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Burn Unit on Apr 10.
PBI has so far arrested 18 people in connection to the murder and four people including key suspects- Nur Uddin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Abdur Rahin Sharif and Hafez Abdul Quader confessed to carrying out the arson attack at the behest of Siraj.
