Ahead of the Bangla New Year on April 14 (Sunday), Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) has issued 13 strict guidelines including a restriction on taking pillions on motorbikes other than spouses.
Police has been instructed to take legal actions against anyone who attempts to violate the 13 directives. Intelligence surveillance is beefed-up as well ahead of the New Year celebration.
The Sylhet police will conduct search operations across the metropolitan on Saturday (Apr 13) and set up security check posts. Multiple units of detectives will also monitor the overall situations across the metropolitan city.
All six police stations of Sylhet have been advised to remain cautious in bolstering security while the organizers of Pahela Boishakh have been told to install closed-circuit television cameras.
Moreover, the police have instructed the organizers to finish their programs by 6pm.
“The Sylhet police headquarters has already advised six police stations of the metrolitan to stay alert while the city dwellers have been warned with 13 directives, failing to follow which will invite strict measures,” Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Zedan Al Musa told Bangla Tribune.
Sylhet Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) – 9 Senior Additional Superintendent of Police Moniruzzaman said that the elite unit will deploy patrol teams and install check posts in key places in the metropolitan.
