Noakhali man 'commits suicide’ in police custody

NoakhaliA youth has been found dead in police custody at district’s Sonaimuri upazila in the early morning of Saturday (June 2).
The deceased has been identified as Tajul Islam Tushar, 23.
Sonaimuri police claimed he was a drug addict and committed suicide by hanging himself at the wee hours of Saturday.
The 23-year-old is the son of one Momin Ullah from upazila’s Durgadaulatpur village in Deoti Union.
Sonaimuri Police Station OC Nasim Uddin said that Momin handed over his son to the police on late hours of Friday for drug abuse. Nine pieces of yaba were seized from his possession and was kept in custody. At the wee hours of Saturday, Tushar hanged himself using his lungi (a cloth usually uses to wear in the lower part of the body).
The body has been sent to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy and an unnatural death (UD) case is being filed over the incident, Nasim added.
Momin said, “Tushar was a drug addict and was sent to abroad three times to keep away from drugs. But every time he came back. He used to beat other members of family for money. On Friday, he was handed over to police, and on Saturday morning, police informed me about his death.”
