Two RU students die of ‘alcohol overdose’

Muhtasim Rafid Khan, a second-year Law student, and Turjo Roy, a first-year Economics student, died on Sunday (Apr 7) at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).Two students of the Rajshahi University have reportedly died after consuming excessive liquor.

A third student, Rakib Hassan of Computer Science student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), is now undergoing treatment at the hospital over the same incident.
The hostel mates of the students say that the three consume excessive liquor at a hostel near to the university. The hostel owner and their hostel mates took them to RMCH around 4am.
Alfaz Hossain, the hostel owner, said that Muhtasim died as soon as he was taken to the hospital and Turjo died around 8am.
“Primarily we came to know that they died after consuming toxic liquor. Details can be ascertained after autopsy,” said Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Iftekher Alam.
