Three Rohingya men have been killed in Cox’s Bazar's Teknaf Upazila in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported around 1.30am on Saturday (Apr 6) from Nayapara Rohingya camp area in the upazila's Hnila Union, said police.
The deceased have been identified as Nur Alam, 23, Mohammad Jubair, 20 and Hamid Ullah, 20.
“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive on the hilly areas adjacent to Nayapara Rohingya camp in the wee hours on Saturday. Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, a group of robbers opened fire on police members and in self-defense, police had to fire back which triggered a shootout,” said Teknaf police OC Predeep Kumar Das.
“After the incident, police found three Rohingya men with bullet injuries on the spot. They succumbed to their injuries on the way to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital,” said Das.
“Four firearms and seven rounds of ammunition were seized from the scene,” he added.
“The three Rohingya men were wanted in several cases,” added the OC.
Police said that they have sent the bodies at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
