Police on Wednesday (Apr 3) night recovered the bodies of a woman and her three-year-old child from their residence in Madaripur.
The deceased, Reba Khantun, 25, and her infant son were living in a rented apartment in Shibchar upazila’s Kachamal area.
Madaripur Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shibchar) Md Sonahar Ali said: “After a call from neighbours, we went to the apartment and broke in. We found the woman hanging from the ceiling and the child dead on the bed.”
“We primarily suspect that the woman killed her child and later committed suicide. The bodies have been sent for autopsy for further details.”
According to the neighbours, there were marital problems between Reba and her husband, Lalu Mia. During the incident, he was reportedly out of town in Khulna for work.
Meanwhile, Fire Service divers on Thursday (Apr 4) recovered another body of a missing college student from under the pier in Kathalbari jetty area.
The deceased, Mehedi Hasan Rakib, 22, was a second-year student at Dhaka Motijheel Ideal School and College.
He went missing after slipping from the Kathalbari jetty around 1 am on Wednesday.
Fire Service Station Officer (Dhaka HQ) Shariful Islam said: “After being informed, a team of divers recovered his body from underneath the pier around 9:30 am.”
