Police-jute mill worker clash injures nine in Khulna

Four policemen were injured in the incident.Nine people were injured in a clash between police and jute mill workers near Daulatpur check post in Khulna.
The incident occurred around 10am on Thursday (Apr 4), during a 72-hour strike by protesting jute mill workers.
“The workers attacked the policemen at Daulatpur check post. There has been a lot of damage,” said Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Moniruzzaman Mithu.
“The injured have been taken to hospital. We are trying to find the cause behind the sudden attack,” added Mithu.

“Five workers have been injured in the incident. Our protest will continue,” he added.

The shutdown is being enforced by workers of nine state-owned jute mills across Khulna, Jashore, and several other districts across Bangladesh, as part of the final day of a 72-hour strike that began on Tuesday (Apr 2).
The protesters are observing the strike demanding a wage commission, the immediate payment of due gratuities, and a provident fund. The strike is scheduled to end at 6am on Friday (Apr 5).
