NoakhaliThe Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a charge sheet before a Noakhali court naming 16 people as accused in a case filed over the gang rape of a housewife in the district’s Subarnachar Upazila.
The charge sheet was submitted on Wednesday (Mar 27) before Senior Judicial Megistrate Nabanita Guha of Cognizance Court, DB Inspector Jakir Hossain, the investigation officer of the case, told Bangla Tribune.
Initially, nine people were accused in the First Information Report (FIR) of the case. Afterwards, proof of involvement of seven more was found and so the charge sheet accused a total of 16 people, said Hossain.
Five among the accused are Ruhul Amin, Hasan Ali Bhulu, Jashim Uddin alias Joissa, Murad and Henju Majhi. The names of two others cannot be disclosed for the sake of investigation, added Hossain.
Former local Awami League leader, Ruhul Amin, was the alleged instigator of the gang rape of a 30-year-old woman in Noakhali's Subarnachar upazila in the early hours of Jan 1.
The victim and her family have said the brutal crime was committed by 10-15 local Awami League followers of Ruhul because the victim had cast her vote for a BNP candidate in the last general elections held on Dec 30, 2018, going against their demand.
Her husband filed the case against nine people at Charjabbar police station.
