A head-on collision between a bus and a microbus has left at least eight people killed and twenty others injured on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway.
The incident was reported around 1:30am on Thursday (Mar 28) at Chunati area in Cox's Bazar’s Lohagara upazila, said police.
Six among the deceased have been identified as Md Nurul Huda, 25, Md Sayem, 22, Afzal Hossain Shohel, 30, Taslima Akhter, 20, her 2-year-old daughter Sadiya and Hasina Momtaz, 45.
"Eight people were killed on the spot after a Cox's Bazar-bound Relax Paribahan bus collided with the Chattogram-bound microbus,” Chunati police camp inchrage Inspector Alamgir Hossain told Bangla Tribune.
The deceased include five men, two women and a child, he said, and added that all of them were passengers of the microbus, said Hossain.
The death toll may rise, he added.
He said police and Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel had rushed to the spot after being informed and recovered the bodies.
Injured people were rescued and sent to different hospitals.
