Bridges minister Obaidul Quader speaking to the reporters on May 26, 2018.No one will be spared for illegal drug trading, not even ruling MP Abdur Rahman Badi, says senior Awami League leader Obaidul Quader.
A lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar, Badi allegedly controls the illegal trade of methamphetamine-based Yaba smuggled in from neighbouring Myanmar.
“Badi will not be spared if the allegations against him are found true. Just like his relative was not spared or anyone else, be it from the Awami League or the BNP,” he told the media on Saturday.
His remarks came amid a countrywide crackdown on drugs over the last week when at least 60 suspected drug dealers were been killed in alleged gunfights.
The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy on drugs, said Road Transport Minister Quader before adding a ‘certain political quarter was not happy about it.’
“But the people are satisfied as drugs are destroying the younger generation.”
On criticism over the ‘shootouts’, which rights activists describe as ‘extra-judicial killings’, the ruling party general secretary said that drug trading involves millions of takas and its only natural that drug dealers carry firearms.
“The law enforcers retaliate only when they are attacked.”
