Amid the government’s countrywide anti-drug drives, listed drugs dealers, peddler in Jashore town and its neighbouring area have gone undercover, police said.
The drugs paddlers, however, did not leave in the areas, local residents said.
Sources said, drug rackets are based on Shankarpur, Chanchra, Raipara, Barandipara, Basepara and Old Kashba area of the town.
A resident from Old Kasba of the town told Bangla Tribune, “A leader of the ruling party controls the drug rackets in Kazipara, Lichubagan and Talikhola areas.”
The leader invested thousands of thousands taka and is doing business without any hindrance using his political influence, said the resident, who preferred to go unnamed.
Like previous days, listed drug peddlers do not move openly. Their mobile phones are switched off and most of them have either gone undercover or adopted disguise, according to the residents from Barandipara.
Residents from Shankarpur said, drug peddlers in the areas, in fact, took disguise. Listed paddlers went undercover. But, ringleaders move open with the blessing of the ruling party as they face no lawsuits related to drug and narcotics.
Two or three people deal contraband Phensedyl and yaba tablet racket in the area under the cover of legal business establishments, according to the local residents.
Now, drug trading is run digitally. Definite codes are use to supply drug substances and fix its price as per client’s demand.
When Bangla Tribune contacted to the local Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), officials denied comment saying that its Deputy Direct is now abroad on training purpose.
The DNC updates the drug traders’ list regularly, its Sub-Inspector Badrul Hasan told Bangla Tribune adding, “Departmental teams along with police forces are conducting drives.”
Echoing the opposite to local residents, Chachra police outpost in-charge Rafiqul Islam said, “Listed drug peddlers, who are out, have left the town.”
Most of them are behind bar with the rest going into hiding during the operation. Our sources are active, drug peddlers will be arrested on sight,” Islam said.
