Obaidul QuaderThe Teesta water sharing deal negotiation will have some progress during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India, says Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
“At present, India-Bangladesh relation is at optimum level. The agreement can be signed at any time. We (the present government) have addressed mistrust issue, which existed over the last 21 years,” said Quader at a meeting in Narayanganj on Friday.
“We are eager to solve the bilateral problems with New Delhi as the dispute on India-Bangladesh Land Boundary agreement has been resolved already. Considering this, signing Teesta agreement is much easier task and the two countries will come at a point to solve this problem. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now in India where [Indian premier] Narendra Modi and [West Bengal Chief Minister] Mamata Banerjee will be present. I cannot say anything over Teesta agreement but assure you that the talks will continue on the agreement,” he said.
Responding to a question on anti-drug raid, Quader said, ‘Myanmar government has been sending the Rohingya community along with yaba. So, we have to unite ourselves to curb the march of drug addiction. Social awareness should be raised to fight against yaba. We didn’t spare any criminal, no matter who is he. If anybody found guilty, the present government will take necessary steps to punish the criminal.”
