Jahalam spent the last three years behind bars instead of the real accused Abu Salek on charges of loan fraud and embezzlement of Tk 185 million from Sonali Bank Limited.Jahalam, who spent three years behind bars instead of the real accused, had been sentenced to 384 years in prison in 33 cases over loan fraud and embezzlement of Tk 185 million from Sonali Bank Limited.
“The court handed me 384 years in jail for the Anti-Corruption Commission’s mistake. I spent three years in jail, the ACC has snatched three years from my life,” lamented Jahalam.
Jahalam, who hails from Tangail, said the graft watchdog’s officials never listened to his requests rather he was ‘beaten’ by the law personnel.
The jute mill worker thanked the media for revealing the truth that paved the way for his release from the prison and demanded justice.
“I want the real accused to be punished as well as the ACC officials to be tried so that no innocent people like me have to suffer again,” he said.
Jahlam, however, was freed from Kashimpur Central Jail early on Monday (Feb 4) day after the High Court ordered the immediate release of Jahlam on Sunday (Feb 3).
