Four to die for killing Sunamganj nursery school student

Mostafizur Rahman EmonFour people have been awarded capital punishment for abducting and murdering a nursery school student in Sunamganj’s Chhatak Upazila.
Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Md Rezaul Karim handed the verdict on Wednesday (Feb 6) in presence of three convicts.
The convicts are Sayebur Rahman Sujon, 28, an Imam from Chhatak’s Bhammanjulia village, Zayed Ahmed, 27, Rafikur Rahman and Saleh Ahmed, 24, who has been on the run since trial started.
The court also fined Tk 20,000 each.
On Mar 27, 2015, Mostafizur Rahman Emon, a nursery student of a community school run by the Lafarge Surma Cement factory in Chhatak’s Batikandi village, went missing.
His father was an expatriate worker who lived in Saudi Arabia.
Later abductors demanded ransom from the family, according to the case documents.
The abductors killed the child even they received a portion of ransom.
On Apr 8 that year, police arrested Sujon after tracking his phone to a location at Kodomtoli bus stand in Dakshin Surma.
Based on his confession, police later recovered Emon’s skull and bones from his arms in a swamp area.
The knife, which was used to murder the boy, was also found along with a bloodied shirt and a bottle of poison.
As many as 24 witnesses gave their depositions in the case
The prosecution, however, expressed satisfaction over the verdict.
“We are satisfied over the verdict,” said public prosecutor Kishore Kumar.
