A turf clash in Kushtia between two factions of Awami League has resulted in the death of one Mainuddin Biswas, 55. Biswas is the father of Jewel Rana, Chhatra League general secretary of Kushtia Islami University.
Local sources say, on Sunday dawn, a group carrying weapons and led by Abdullahpur union AL general secretary, Golam Mostafa attacked the house of UP AL chairman Ali Haider.
In the ensuing clashes, Mainuddin was gravely injured. When he was taken to the Kushtia General Hospital, the doctors declared him dead.
Kushtia Islami University acting OC, Ratan Sheikh, says that the situation is currently under control and large numbers of police personnel have been deployed.
