An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Meherpur’s Sadar Upazila in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported from the upazila’s Buripota border area in the early hours of Thursday (Jan 3), said police.
The identity of the victim could not be revealed.
“Police got a tip that a shootout is taking place at a litchi garden of Buripota village. Police rushed to the spot but found that the shootout was stopped,” said Meherpur Sadar police OC Rabiul Islam.
“Later, the bullet-ridden body was recovered from the scene,” OC Islam added.
Police believe that the deceased could be involved in drug peddling.
