The fourth span of the Padma Bridge, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Bangladesh, has been installed, making a total of 600 metres of the bridge visible.
The 7E superstructure was installed on Sunday between Piers 40-41, Humayun Kabir, assistant engineer (main bridge) of the mega project, told Bangla Tribune.
The installation began at 6am and the span was placed atop the piers around 8am.
The span was transported to the area between Pier 40 and Pier 41 on Saturday.
Assistant Engineer Ahmed Ahsan said, “The span was lifted by a crane and raised onto temporary bearings. It will take a few days for the structure to be permanent.”
Works on installation of fifth spam is going on in full swing, to be installed on Piers 40-41 at the Zazira end, he added.
Previously, 450 metre of the bridge had been made visible with the installation of three spans on Piers between 37, 38, 39 and 40. The first span was installed on Sep 30 last year, the second on Jan 28 this year and the third one on Mar 11.
