10 Panchagarh candidates deposit forfeited

PanchagarhThe deposit of 10 MP candidates out of the total 14 in Panchagarh constituencies has been forfeited.
In Panchagarh-1, Jatiya Party’s Abu Salek, Islami Andolon’s Abdullah, Zaker Party’s Sumon Rana, National People’s Party’s Sheikh Habibur Rahman and Jatioya Gonotantrik Party’s Al Rashed lost their deposits while Awami League candidate Mazharul Huq Pradhan, BNP’s Barrister Naoshad Zamir retained theirs.
In Panchgarh-2, Jatiya Party’s Lutfor Rahman Ripon, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Kamrul Hassan Pradhan, Bangladesh Communist Party’s Ashraful Alam, National People’s Party’s Foyzur Rahman Mithu and Jatiya Ganotantrik Party’s Barrister Tasmiya Pradhan lost their deposits, while Awami League candidate Nurul Islam Sujon and BNP’s Farhad Hossain Azad retained theirs.
District Election Officer Ashraful Alam said that if a candidate gets lower than one eighth of the total votes cast, then the submitted deposit is forfeited under existing law.
