Jatiya Party (JP) aspirant for Jamalpur-1 Constiuency, MA Sattar has pulled out from the race in favour of the ruling Awami League’s candidate.
Local JP unit General Secretary AKM Hamidullah disclosed Sattar’s decision on 10pm Wednesday (Dec 26). Sattar, however wasn’t present during the announcement.
A presidium member of HM Ershad–led Jatiya Party, Sattar, said he will support Awami League’s pick Md Abul Kalam Azad.
A written statement of Sattar was read out during the media brief.
“I have decided to withdraw from the polls willingly and of my own volition for the interest of the Grand Alliance, which Jatiya Party is a part of,” read the statement.
With the JP candidate pulling out from the contest, five now remains among initial seven candidates in the seat.
Earlier, Oikya Front’s pick for the constituency M Rashiduzzama Millat’s candidacy was scrapped by the High Court.
