BNP has accused the ruling Awami League of inducing an unfavourable atmosphere to keep people out of polling stations.
Senior BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the claim while talking to the media in front of his Thakurgaon residence on Thursday (Dec 27).
“Election friendly atmosphere is absent in the country. In the past few days, we have seen our top leaders attacked by the Awami League activists and the most regretting fact is they are doing it with help from the police and administration,” said Alamgir.
BNP secretary general also said that holding fair polls under the current Awami League government is not possible.
“We will be in the race till the very end because we want to prove that fair and neutral polls in this country is impossible under a ruling regime,” he said.
“Even a few days ago, polls environment in Thakurgaon was rather fair. However, after returning back here on Wednesday, I saw Awami League men, armed with machetes, are going door to door to threaten everyone to not go to vote,” he said.
Alamgir also said he thinks his seat is already lost and added, “Be what may, we are in the race.”
