At least 30 people including four policemen and two journalists have been injured in a clash between the supporters of ruling Awami League and its archrival BNP in Mymansingh’s Bhaluka Upazila.
The incident was reported from the Bus Stand area of the upazila’s Bhaluka municipality on Tuesday (Dec 26) evening, Bhaluka model police OC Firoze Talukdar told Bangla Tribune.
Five people were held in connection to the clash.
Talukdar, a group of BNP supporters, led by Jatiya Oikya Front candidate Fakhar Uddin Ahammed Bacchu for Mymansingh 11, brought out a procession in the Pilot School intersection.
But, police barred the BNP activists fearing a possible clash between AL and BNP activists.
Ignoring police’s barriers, BNP men locked into a clash with AL supporters in the nearby Bus Stand area, the OC said.
BNP supporters also vandalised several motorbikes in front of schools.
Talukdar said that police fired 10 round tear shells and 32 round rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
The clash left at least 30 people including AL and BNP activists, four policemen and two journalists, according to the OC.
The injured were treated at local health complex.
Additional forcers comprising of police and Border Guard Bangladesh remained deployed to avoid fit further clash.
