Ruling Awami League leader Obaidul Quader has called Jatiya Okiya Front convener Dr Kamal Hossain to step down dismissing the opposition alliance’s call to resign the chief election commissioner (CEC).
“Dr Kamal has failed as the Oikya Front leader. So, he should resign not the CEC,” Quader said at a rally in Cumilla’s Chaddugram on Wednesday (Dec 26).
On Tuesday (Dec 25), Oikya Front demanded CEC KM Nurul Huda “to step down right away and the President appoints a neutral person as the new one.”
Referring to Dr Kamal’s meeting with the CEC, Quader said, “Why did you meet the person, whose resignation you demand.”
The senior AL leader urged all to vote for his party in the Dec 30 polls for the continuation of the country’s development.
“The alternative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leadership and AL is arson attacks, killings, general strikes, eventfully creating a reign of terror,” said Quader, who is the road transport minister.
