BNP candidate for Narayanganj-4 constituency Mufti Monir Hossain Kasemi alleged that he has received life threat from the ruling Awami League’ s Narayanganj Metropolitan unit’s Joint general Secretary Shah Nizam.
“Nizam and his associates also threatened me to leave the area,” Kasemi told a media briefing at Narayanganj press club on Monday (Dec 24).
In a counter media briefing, Shah Nizam refuted the allegations saying, “The ‘paddy sheaf’ candidate is spreading falsehood in an effort to garner sympathy.”
The BNP candidate said that he was talking with a person in front of Fatulla’s Bhuighar Rupayan Tower around 2.30pm on Monday when Shah Nizam and some 20 of Nizam’s associates surrounded him.
“Leave Narayanganj within half an hour or you will be shot dead,” Kashemi claimed he was told.
Nizam’s men also displayed firearms to intimidate him, he added.
“We have verbally informed the matter to the district’s returning officer,” Kasemi told the briefing.
He said that he also informed the local Army camp, setup for polls duty.
Shah Nizam, during his own media brief, claimed that he does not personally know Mufti Monir Hossain Kasemi.
He said, “Kasemi’ is allegedly connected with militant activities and his movement is suspicious.”
“So I was told,” added Nizam.
