Rohingya camps to be sealed off on Election Day: ECThe Election Commission has instructed the Cox’s Bazar’s returning officer to take steps to seal off the Rohingya camps on the voting day, says its Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
“The Rohingyas, accompanied by the candidates, may carry out wrongdoings and they may go on hire to cast the fake ballot. So, entire Rohingya camps will remain sealed on the voting day” Ahmed said on Tuesday (Dec 18).
Speaking at a view exchange programme with the EC’s field officials in Chattogram, Ahmed said, “We are verifying the candidates’ complains about the role of law enforcement agencies.
Law enforcement agencies need to be more alert,” he said.
Ahmed said, “As the EC is receiving a large number of allegations, it marked Chattogram, three hill tracts districts, Cox’s Bazar, Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, and Brahmanbaria districts as the red zone.
He urged the elected officials to act accordingly to keep the polls atmosphere peaceful.
“The EC also instructed the inspector general of police to maintain a peaceful atmosphere across Bangladesh,” Ahmed added.
