Internet sensation turned polls candidate Hero Alom has said that his electoral symbol ‘lion’ is also people’s favourite symbol.

“Hero Alom means viral,” he told Bangla Tribune on Wednesday (Dec 12) adding “Lion is my polls logo and it is also people favourite. That’s why I want to run for the polls with lion.”

He also said that he will hit the campaign trail from Kahalu on Thursday (Dec 13)

Alom initially sought candidacy from HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party. However, he filed nomination to run independently after he was denied party ticket.

On Dec 2, his nomination paper was cancelled for erroneous supporters’ list by the concerned returning officer.

Alom later got his nomination restored by a High Court order.

Hero Alom said that he was verbally told by the returning officer to print posters with polls logo ‘lion’, which he requested for.

He wasn’t allotted electoral symbol on the scheduled day as the returning officer wasn’t available at office.

Returning Officer Mahbub Alam Shah said, “Hero Alom will officially be handed the symbol once I’m back to Bogura after an urgent meeting in Dhaka.

Hero Alom will be contesting polls from Bagura-4 constituency where his contenders are JaSod’s Hasanul Haq Inu, AKM Rejaul Karim Tansen (boat) and Mosharraf Hossain (paddy sheaf) among others.
