Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has held 10 Rohingyas and one human trafficker in Cox’s Bazar as they were attempting to illegally embark on a sea journey to Malaysia.
They were held from Teknaf Upazila’s Shah Porir Dwip around 1.30am of Friday (Nov 30), said RAB-7 major Mehedy Hassan.
The ten Rohingyas have been identified Md Zia, Rashid Illah, Nur Alam, Md Zaber, Md Mokadecha, Jannat Ara, Setera, Jolekha, Rojina, Solika and the human trafficker has been identified as Abdur Rahman, 25.
The Rohingyas were staying at different Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf in the southeastern district as they fled Myanmar after the Military crackdown from Aug 15, 2017.
“Acting on a tip-off, RAB conducted a raid at Abdur Rahman’s residence and held him and the Rohingyas,” said the major Hassan.
The Rohingyas will be sent back to the camps, added the elite force official.
