A fire at a market in Shariatpur’s Palang upazila has killed two persons while as many as 13 stores were left to ashes.
The victims have been identified as Palash Bairagi and Biswajit Sarkar, who were employees at a sweetmeat store in the Uttarbazar market.
Around 4:45am on Friday (Nov 30), a fire broke out at Haru Ghosh’s Sweetmeat store, said Shariatpur sadar upazila nirbahi officer Mahbubur Rahman Sheikh.
“As many as 11 stores of the market were burned to the ground while two others were partially burnt,” he added.
“Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to douse the fire within one hour with the help of locals, said Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director ABM Momtazuddin Ahmed.
