Police have recovered a bullet-hit body by the bank of Naf River in Cox’s Bazar on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Hamid alias Lalaia, 35, a listed drug-peddler, police says.

A team of police officers, returning from an anti-drug raid during early hours on Friday, were informed that a gunfight between two groups of drug-peddlers ensued after a yaba-deal went wrong by the Naf River, according to police sources.

The drug dealers opened fire sensing the police team at the scene, at which the officers retaliated.

Hamid’s body was found at the end of the gunfight while the rest managed to flee.

Police recovered two guns, 10 rounds of bullets and 6000 pieces of yaba pills from the scene.

Teknaf Model Police OC Pradip Kumar Das said that Hamid was a listed robber and drug-peddler with at least four ongoing cases against him.

The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital Morgue, added Das.
