Fire at Gazipur leaves one dead, four injured

The fire was reported from a Colony at Gazipur's Bashon road around 9:30pm Thursday (Oct 25). BANGLA TRIBUNEAn incident of fire at a Workers’ Colony in Gazipur has left one dead, injuring four others, Fire Service officials said.

The incident was reported from the city’s Bashon road in the Dakshin Para area around 9:30pm Thursday (Oct 25).

The deceased has been identified as Sobed Mia, 70, a vegetable trader.

The four injured include his grandson Shimul, 8, with another person reported missing in the incident.

Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service Akhtaruzzaman and locals said that the fire erupted from a gas cylinder in a household and rapidly went beyond control engulfing the entire colony.

Two units from Joydebpur Fire Station rushed to the scene and managed to put out the fire after one hour of effort.  

Injured child Shimul has been admitted at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital while the others were sent to local hospitals.

Sabuj Mia, 40, a resident of the colony has been missing since the incident.
