BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.A court in Chattogram has granted police one day to question senior BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin gave the order on Thursday (Oct 25) after police pleaded for two days custody in cases filed under the ICT Act and the Special Powers Act.
“The court was scheduled to hear two issues — police’s remand plea and the matter of Khasru’s audio clip to match his voice with the leaked conversation,” Khasru’s lawyer Mafizul Haque Bhuiyan told Bangla Tribune.
“We pleaded to the court to not grant remand until it’s confirmed that the voice (heard on the leaked tape) was Khasru’s,” he added.
Law enforcers asked Khasru, a member of BNP's policymaking National Standing Committee, to provide his audio clip so that they can match his voice with the conversation that was reportedly leaked earlier.
But Khasru refused to provide a clip of his voice and on Thursday, the court asked him to read out a statement to match his voice, said the defence counsel before adding: “He (Khasru), however, said that the police can get a sample of his voice from the media to match it.”
Jakaria Dastagir, general secretary of Chattogram city Chhatra League, filed the case with on Aug 4 under the section 57 of the ICT Act and section 15 of the Special Powers Act, after a phone conversation allegedly between Khasru and a BNP activist named Nowmi was leaked.
The cases were filed on charges of provoking the student protesting for safer roads, and also conspiring with a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader aiming to destabilise the country.
