An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Cox’s Bazar in what the police describe as a shootout.
The victim is identified as Mofizul Islam, 30.
The incident was reported around 5am on Wednesday from the district’s Teknaf Upazila, said police.
Acting on a tip-off, Teknaf police conducted a raid at upazila’s Moheshkhali para area. Sensing the presence of the law enforcing men, a group of people opened fire and in self defence police have to retaliate which triggered the shootout. Later, Mufizul Islam found dead on the spot,” said Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of police ABM Masud Hossain.
“5000 pieces of yaba tablets, 5 firearms and 40 rounds of ammunition seized from the scene,” added Masud Hossain.
“Mufizul Islam is accused in seven cases with Tektaf police,” he added.
The body is kept at Taknaf Health Complex.
