A Buddha statue in Jetoban temple has been vandalized at the Guimara Upazila of Khagrachhari on Monday (Oct 23).
The incident took place late at night and since no one was present in the temple the miscreants have not been identified, Halfchhari Union Chairman Chaithowai Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune.
The police and local representatives went to inspect the scene on Tuesday (Oct 23).
“The culprits might belong to a vested group trying to disrupt religious harmony,” Guimara police station OC Gias Uddin said.
Although the temple authorities have not yet lodged an official complaint, police are trying to identify the culprits.
The Buddhists built the convent in 2017 in the Kukichiora area at Khagrachari.
