‘Drug peddler’ killed in Rajshahi ‘shootout’

An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Rajshahi in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as a shootout.
The victim has been identified as Hasibul Hossain Ghosh, 37.
According to a media statement issued by RAB on Friday (Sept 28), a patrol team of RAB discovered a group of people inside a mango garden of the district’s Afi Nepalpara area of Pabna Upazila around 1am.
They tried to run away and upon being asked to surrender, they opened fire on RAB. The elite force members fired back in self-defence and found Hasibul’s bullet-ridden body at the scene while the rest of his cohorts escaped, added the media statement.
Hasibul was taken to Rajshahi Medical College where the doctors declared him dead.
Two RAB officials who were injured during the shootout, added the statement.
A gun, a magazine, two rounds of ammunition and 76 bottles of Phensedyl have been seized from the scene.
